Memory Match

Flip cards two at a time to find eight hidden pairs before your turns run out. Fewer turns spent means a higher score.

Easy ~3 min

Sixteen cards lie face down in eight matching pairs. Turn two cards at a time and remember what you saw. Clear every pair within 20 turns to win, and the turns you save are worth extra points.

How it works

Sixteen cards sit face down on a four by four board. Behind them are eight matching pairs of shapes. You turn two cards on each go. If the shapes match, the pair stays face up for the rest of the round. If they do not match, both cards turn back over after a moment.

Every two-card turn costs one of your twenty turns. Clear all eight pairs before the counter reaches zero and you win. Run out with pairs still hidden and the round ends.

Remembering the board

The board is shuffled fresh every round, so there is nothing to memorise in advance. What matters is what you learn as you play. A card you turned over three goes ago is still sitting in the same place.

The strongest habit is to spend your early turns on cards you have not seen yet. Each new card tells you something, even when it does not match. Once you have seen most of the board, the pairs start falling quickly because you already know where their partners are. Players who flip at random tend to see the same card twice and learn nothing from it.

Scoring and turns

Your score has two parts. Each pair you find is worth one hundred points. Each turn you have left at the end is worth twenty five more. A clean round, where you never turn the same wrong card twice, ends with a large bonus still on the counter.

This means finishing is not the only goal. Finding all eight pairs on your last possible turn still counts as a win, but it scores far less than finishing early. Your best score of the session is kept on screen so you can try to beat it.

Controls

Click or tap a card to turn it over. You can also play from the keyboard: the arrow keys move the highlight around the board, Enter or Space turns the highlighted card, and Escape leaves the round.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn more than two cards at once? No. Each turn is exactly two cards. While a pair is being checked the board is locked, so a fast extra click will not register.

Do matched pairs ever flip back over? No. Once a pair is found it stays face up and slightly dimmed for the rest of the round, so you can see your progress at a glance.

Is the board the same every time? No. The shapes are shuffled into new positions at the start of every round, including when you press play again after finishing.

What happens if I quit halfway? The round is dropped and nothing is scored. Your best score from earlier rounds in the session stays where it is.
