How it works
A five-letter word is hidden at the start of each round. You have six tries to find it. Type any real five-letter word and press Enter to submit it.
Every submitted guess is colored letter by letter. A purple tile means that letter is correct and sits in the right spot. A pink tile means the letter is in the hidden word but somewhere else. A gray tile means the letter is not in the word at all. The on-screen keyboard picks up the same colors, so you can see at a glance which letters you have already ruled out.
Building a run
Solving a word does not end the game. It extends your run. You get a new hidden word, your score carries over, and you keep going until a word beats you. A word you have already solved never comes back in the same run.
Points depend on speed. Finding the word on your first try is worth 600 points, and each extra guess you need is worth 100 points less, down to 100 points for a sixth-try save. Your best run score is remembered while the page stays open.
Tips
Open with a word that spreads out common letters, something like “slate” or “crane”. A first guess packed with rare letters tells you very little.
Watch the pink tiles closely. A letter that is in the word but misplaced can usually only go in two or three remaining spots, and crossing those off is faster than guessing fresh words. When you have four letters locked in purple, think about which last letter actually makes a word rather than trying them in alphabetical order.
Repeated letters are the usual trap. If a word contains two of the same letter, only the matching copies get colored, so one pink tile does not mean the letter appears just once.
Controls
Type letters on your keyboard, or tap the on-screen keys. Enter submits a guess, Backspace deletes the last letter. Quit returns to the start screen.
Frequently asked questions
Does every guess have to be a real word? Yes. Guesses are checked against the game’s word list, and anything outside it is rejected without using up a try. You lose nothing by testing a word you are unsure about.
Is the word the same for everyone each day? No. A new word is drawn at random whenever a round starts, so you can play as many rounds as you like.
What happens when I run out of tries? The run ends, the hidden word is revealed, and your final score is shown next to your best. Play again starts a fresh run from zero.
